Best Advice Forever!
Once, there was a King. He was trying very hard to run his empire.
But the people were not happy with him and were not ready to cooperate with his government.
The King called several meetings with his ministers, but all went in-vain.
One day, the King was standing in a big window of his palace and thinking how to solve the conflicts with his people and all of a sudden, he saw a Monk sitting under a tree.
The King thought that these Monks are intelligent people and usually they have answers to every question.
He explained the Monk his situation in detail and requested for an advice.
The Monk said,
- “I’ll give you two advices”
- Thank you - The king said, - but I need only one.
- Well, then, - The Monk said, - Since you have to rule - continue ruling like a strict king.
After that, the King became very strict and harsh. He started punishing every rebel publicly and made very tough rules and ordered very severe punishments for smaller crimes.
The things got worse, people started revolution and decided to kill the King.
The King, then dressed like a beggar and fled to a near-by forest to save his life.
One day, while washing his face at a little pool, he saw the same Monk, who gave him this advice, under a tree. The King shouted:
- Look, what your advice has done to me!
- Don’t you want to listen to my second advice? - the Monk replied
- I have nothing to lose anymore, therefore, I can listen to your second advice as well - the King replied.
- Second advice is, - said the Monk, - never seek/receive any advice from those, who have absolutely no idea of your situation.
